Set over a largely flat course around the River Thames, the race begins at three separate points around Blackheath and finishes in The Mall alongside St James’s Park. The course begins at three separate points: the ‘red start’ in southern Greenwich Park on Charlton Way, the ‘green start’ in St John’s Park, and the ‘blue start’ on Shooter’s Hill Road. From these points around Blackheath at 35 m (115 ft) above sea level, south of the River Thames, the route heads east through Charlton. The three courses converge after 4.5 km (2.8 miles) in Woolwich, close to the Royal Artillery Barracks.
The marathon is run over a largely flat course around the River Thames, and spans 42.195 kilometres (26.219 mi).
RACE DATE: April 22, 2018
START TIME: 8:10 AM
COURSE: As the route leads away from Canary Wharf into Poplar, competitors run west down Poplar High Street back towards Limehouse and on through Commercial Road. They then move back onto The Highway, onto Lower and Upper Thames Streets. Heading into the final leg of the race, competitors pass The Tower of London on Tower Hill. In the penultimate mile along The Embankment, the London Eye comes into view, before the athletes turn right into Birdcage Walk to complete the final 352 m (385 yards), catching the sights of Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, and finishing in The Mall alongside St. James’s Palace. This final section of the route formed part of the 2012 Olympic Marathon Course.
ENTRY FEE : The entry fee is not included in your package price and is an additional US$500.

Oyster Cards and getting around London
The Tube (officially, the Underground) is the oxygen of London – nothing works without it. And the cheapest way to get around on the Tube for visitors is with an Oyster Card.
The pay-as-you-go Oyster Card calculates the cheapest tickets for all your travels to ensure you are better off.
You can purchase one before you leave and have it delivered to you in Australia (or many other non-UK countries) within 15 days, which makes arrival that much easier. Order it from the Visit Britain Shop online store.
There are the famous black cabs of London whose drivers could find an obscure street in the back of Hackney thanks to ‘The Knowledge’ but they are more expensive and usually slower.
So for day-to-day sightseeing, it’s not really an option, but with many bags it’s totally helpful.
London is not the city to try and drive around; it is far too difficult for visitors so don’t bother. You will waste too much time trying to navigate and trying to find a park.
You can navigate London by two distinct schematic – the Tube Network and the Postal Code.
The Tube schematic is “closest tube station”. Most destinations will tell you the closest Tube station and we have endeavoured to as well in the International Traveller London Guide.
Most destinations are within a maximum 10 minutes’ walk to the closest Tube station.
The other location schematic is the Postal Code – the first one or two letters of the postal code give you an idea of the location and are often used to describe a location to locals.
So, the system follows the points of the compass with the ‘City’ as the central point.
Arriving in London
Most of us will arrive by airplane into either Gatwick or Heathrow. The Heathrow Express is by far the most efficient and effective way to get into London from Heathrow.
Simply follow the signs to the Express (not the Tube). It will deposit you at Paddington Station in 15 minutes (with excellent free wi-fi to boot) and then you can descend into the underground or catch a waiting black cab if you are too exhausted and can’t be bothered trying to save a few quid.
Alternatively the Heathrow Tube stop is a longer journey but with an Oyster Card, it’s about a third of the price. Trains take an hour and run about every 10 minutes.
Gatwick also has an express train that runs every 15 minutes and takes 30 minutes to arrive at Victoria station. Again, the website has pre-purchased discounts.
If arriving into Luton or Stansted from European locations, there are train services to London from both airports. The Stansted Express and Luton has multiple services.
If you are on a budget there is a very cheap easyBus service that runs from Gatwick, Stansted and Luton to various stops in the city and takes about an hour.

ActiveXplorers.com’s packages start with a Basic Package which includes the Race Entry OR the Guaranteed Entry for the Marathon race, a 5 Days / 4 Nights hotel accommodation of your choice and inclusive of breakfast. You will then be able to add-on Airport Transfer, Half-Day or Full-Day Tours (which would normally include a trip to the Race Expo for the bib number and Race Pack collection), pre-race carbo-loading dinner, post-race foot reflexology session, travel insurance, etc. You will also be able to extend their stay (in the same hotel), add extra beds or to request for room upgrades (if there is availability).
A ‘Single Occupancy’ room is for a single runner who is travelling and staying in a room alone. A ‘Twin / Double Occupancy’ room is for a single runner who is travelling and staying in a room with another traveller. The price is different as the ‘Twin / Double Occupancy’ room includes Marathon Entry for a single runner. However, the hotel breakfast and other additional items, such as tour, airport transfer and travel insurance, if selected, are included for 2 travellers. If, however, the second traveller is also a runner who wishes to participate in the relevant marathon event, you can purchase one additional Marathon Entry when purchasing your Travel Package.
All tax charges will already have been included in the Travel Packages. The tax rates which will be charged will depend on the country being visited. The hotel partners and suppliers will charge the relevant tax rates being charged based on each countries tax rates, therefore each country being visited will most likely have different tax rates.
The packages priced are for a per room basis, NOT per person.

As soon as you have learnt that you have been successful in obtaining the Entry through the balloting system, you can immediately send an email to email@example.com and we will be more than happy to refund you the cost of the Race Entry. Our team will also inform the Marathon organiser that your Entry is under the balloting system and not through ActiveXplorer.com.
There will be no fee charged for amendments on any bookings.
The Race Entries are STRICTLY non-transferable.
The purchase of the Race Entry OR the Guaranteed Entry alone is not possible. The Race Entry OR the Guaranteed Entry must be purchased in conjunction with the ActiveXplorers.com Travel Packages.
Most hotels allow children to stay in the room with parents either with or without an extra bed. The normal hotel policy is not to charge for children if they are under 12 years of age. Some hotels will limit occupancy of a room to two adults and one child. Only a few hotels will have existing bedding for additional children, so an extra bed is usually required. Most hotels will charge for this extra bed. Usually hotels will provide breakfast when there is a charge for an extra bed. However, this is dependent on each hotel's policies and procedures. A baby cot may be provided free of charge, by some hotels, for children under the age of 2. You will be able to see the individual hotel policy at the ‘Hotel Policy’ section of each of the packages page.
All our packages are in a pre-determined currency of American Dollars (USD).
It will normally take between 24 to 48 hours for ActiveXplorers.com to confirm availability of the rooms with our hotel partners. You will receive an email confirming the availability or the unavailability of the rooms. If the room that you had booked is not available, ActiveXplorers.com will immediately provide other available options, either in another hotel or another room level within the same hotel, whichever one you prefer.
Once you have received the email to confirm that your hotel booking has been confirmed, the hotel address and telephone number will be displayed within this email. You may also call the hotel to confirm if your room has been booked under the name you used when you made the reservation with ActiveXplorers.com.
The cancellation policy will be stated within the ‘Hotel Policy’ section. It will also be stated in the confirmation email we send you.
Note: Details and conditions in the cancellation policy will be different for each booking depending on each hotel, period of stay, room type, etc. Please read this carefully before submitting your booking.
Yes, you may make your own arrangements. However, if you purchase the half-day or full-day tour, our transportation will drop you at the Expo on the way back to your hotel. You can pick up your bib number and race pack at the Expo.
